COMMUNITY Pub of the Year looks set to be a hotly contested category in this year's Hereford Times Food and Drink Awards.

Nominations are already flooding in, with Herefordshire's hostelries keen to show just what makes them stand out from the crowd.

One of those received so far is from the one-of-a-kind Sun Inn in Leintwardine.

An historic parlour pub, made famous under the ownership of legendary former landlady, Flossie Lane, who held the title of oldest and longest serving licensee in the country, the inn continues to offer a range of local ales and ciders alongside classic 'pub grub'.

Nathan Priday from The Sun Inn said: "The pub offers a wide variety of events for the local community, which brings in business while helping other local businesses. One example of this is allowing customers from the chip shop next door to enjoy their fish and chips in the pub garden over a pint of real ale."

The pub regularly features guest ales brewed as locally to Leintwardine as possible alongside house ales brewed by Hobsons Brewery in Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow Brewery, such as Three Tuns XXX, made by from Britain's oldest brewery, Three Tuns in Bishop's Castle.

Ciders from local craft producers Oldfields Cider and Robinson's Cider take pride of place alongside those from fellow local producers, Westons.

"The Sun also regularly holds community events," Nathan said.

"From the annual beer festival, to barbecues and monthly charity quiz, bingo and mic nights and more.

"Towards the end of 2018, The Sun's new darts team was founded, competing in the local league and winning all the trophies available in their first season!"
