MEMBERS of Malvern Victoria Bowls Club will mark the opening of their new clubhouse with a special celebration match against Bowls England.

The event will take place at the club in Victoria Park, Malvern Link, on Thursday, July 4.

The club has recently undergone a major facelift, which has been supported by Malvern Town Council, Malvern Hills District Council and Sport England, with the enthusiastic help of members and business sponsors.

Bowls England president Hazel Marke from Hampshire will bring a 24-strong side to town to play in the fixture, including international players.

Hazel Marke said: “I am really looking forward to bringing a Bowls England side to Malvern to mark the club’s new clubhouse.

“A celebration match against a Bowls England representative side is an ideal way for a club to celebrate their special occasion in style.

“We hope that our visit will leave a lasting impression on the club and ensure many new friendships are made both on and off the green.”

Henry Steer, chairman of the Malvern club, said: "The club is delighted that Bowls England will help us to mark the opening of our new clubhouse with a celebration match.

"We look forward to welcoming Hazel and her team to Victoria Park and hope they enjoy the occasion as much as we will.”

The club will be presented with a Bowls England pennant to celebrate the occasion, whilst the best performing rinks for both sides will be awarded with commemorative spoons to mark their successes.
