A grant from the National Lottery will help people with learning disabilities in Hereford repair clothing.
A £10,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund will enable The Big Skill CIC successfully bid for to run upcycling workshops in Hereford, as well as across the border in Abergavenny.
They will also hold local repair cafés, where people with learning disabilities along with the whole community can learn to repair and renew clothing. They will also learn to make useful items by recycling.
Trevor Stringer, chair of the Big Skill CIC said: "We are delighted to announce that The National Lottery Community Fund have given us a grant to work with a range of partners to put recycling and craft skills at the heart of the community.
"Those wishing to learn new skills, share existing, socialise, receive training and recycle will find that the new craft RecycleRepairRedesign@Waste-lessWorkshops will not be a waste of time."
This project aims to provide family friendly workshops and skills training and encourage community cohesion. Most of the training is with the Big Skill's partners' Repair Cafés Abergavenny Community Centre and Hereford Green Network's Make Do and Mend Cafes.
The cafés will offer opportunities, working with Creo Skills, to obtain an accredited qualification.
The first workshops at Abergavenny and Hereford will be in September.
