NEARLY 50 people attended the Allensmore History Matters get-together on July 26 when the topic of conversation was Allensmore Village School.

The school closed 62 years ago on April, 30, 1957.

It now has a new life as Allensmore Village Hall or Pateshall Village Hall after the last family that lived at Allensmore Court (demolished in 1957).

A special welcome was given to 13 past pupils.

The group traced the journey of education in Allensmore from the charity school in 1824, through to the building of a Board School from 1870 before exploring the final years of the school.

The last inspection report from 1956 was read; this noted the lack of running water and electricity (the latter not arriving in the village until 1958).

If any readers know any more about Allensmore School or have any old photographs of Allensmore past please contact Yvonne Chapman on 01432 806414.

The group would particularly like to trace the school log books, can you help?
