FORMER Worcester Warriors hooker Jack Singleton has been named in England’s 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

But there is no place for centre Ben Te’o who was reportedly involved in an off-field altercation with England team-mate Mike Brown last week.

Te’o, who left Warriors at the end of the season, and Brown were dropped from the squad ahead of Sunday's clash with Wales after their alleged fracas during a team bonding session in Italy.

The 32-year-old has been a key figure in England’s plans since joining Worcester from Leinster in the summer of 2016.

However, there is joy for Saracens-bound Singleton who has been selected among three hookers after making his senior international debut at the weekend.

Singleton, 23, came off the bench for the closing stages of England’s 33-19 victory over Wales.

His inclusion comes after another solid season for Warriors, scoring three tries in 23 appearances.

Warriors prop Nick Schonert had been involved in England training camps but missed out with head coach Eddie Jones opting to pick two tightheads in Dan Cole and Kyle Sinckler.

Bath’s Ruaridh McConnochie is the only uncapped player named.

Jones said: “Today is another step in the progress towards the Rugby World Cup.

“We have taken the decision to go early because of what we learned from previous campaigns.

“We want the squad to know early and now we can get on and be the best prepared England side there has ever been, ready to win the World Cup.”

On the players not selected Jones added: “A lot of good players have missed out, we feel for them, I feel for them personally.

“But as we know the World Cup is an incredible tournament where opportunities can present themselves and all those players who have missed out have been told they have to be ready.”
