A HOUSE which was destroyed by fire in Hereford in May could be rebuilt, if plans are approved.

Herefordshire Housing want to demolish the house on Cobhall Close and replace it with a similar property.

The building had suffered from a substantial fire, in which one woman lost her life, and the house was severely damaged.

Joyce Elizabeth Kenney, who was 82, lived at the mid-terraced house with her husband Jack.

Fire crews were called to their home on Friday, May 17 but despite the efforts of rescue teams, little could be done to save Mrs Kenney.

An online appeal raised £2,152 for Mr Kenney, who had managed to get out of the home by the time firefighters arrived.

Plans show the housing association want to rebuild the house to compliment the rest of the terraced properties, using similar materials - brick walls, pan tiles for the roof and white uPVC doors and windows.

Comments on planning application 192685 can be made until August 30, with a decision expected by September 20.
