A TEAROOM at the heart of its community is in the running for a Hereford Times Food and Drink Award.

Located in the centre of the beautiful black and white village of Pembridge, family-run shop and tearoom Ye Olde Steppes aim to put 100 per cent into everything they do.

A favourite for locals and tourists alike, the business is keen to promote local produce, offering a range of locally grown and produced fruit, vegetables, honey, milk, local bread, apple juice and more in their shop.

The tearoom serves locally blended teas and coffees, home cooked breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and homemade scones and cakes using locally sourced ingredients.

Its nomination reads: "We are very busy throughout the year and we really enjoy what we do.

"We use loose leaf teas from Trumpers Teas who are from Hereford, and the coffee we use is James Gourmet, who are located in Ross-on-Wye.

"We use local strawberries from Oakchurch and cherries from Moor Court Farm in our cakes and our baking.

"All our bread that we use and sell, is from Swifts Bakery in Ludlow/Clee Hill. We use local ingredients in our cooking of meals such as local Townsend sausages or Tudges sausages, bacon and ham.

"We use eggs, honey and jam from Country Flavours in Hereford, and our delicious, homemade quiches always have local ingredients in such as a variety of cheese from Croome Cuisine who are in Worcester.

"Our milk is from Cotswold Dairy from Tenbury, and we use Tyrrells Crisps as a side on our lunch meals.

Our speciality is definitely our homemade quiches, made fresh in our kitchen every morning for lunchtime. They are always a winner with customers.

"They are served warm with a side salad, homemade Coleslaw and Tyrrells Crisps. Bev and Jude make some wonderful and sometimes very different, concoctions in the quiches.

Pear, Stilton and Walnut, Nectarine, Scrumpy Apple Cheese and Cheddar, Smoked Salmon & Asparagus and many more.

We hold the Pembridge monthly, WI meeting, where the ladies come to enjoy a tea, coffee or cold drink, and a piece of homemade cake whilst catching up on events.

We do also often have other villages WI meetings!

We are always donating towards local events such as the Pembridge Show, church fetes or the yearly bonfire display!
