KINGTON will once again be putting its best foot forward as the ‘town of walks’ takes to the hills next week.

Now in its eighth year and acknowledged as one of the area’s major events, Kington Walking Festival hits the trail from Thursday September 19, until Sunday, September 22, promising a range of walks catering for differing interests and abilities.

Whether it’s Nordic walking, dipping into hillsides once familiar to Victorian diarist Francis Kilvert, or taking a challenge to cover the Eight Peaks – well-known hilltops straddling the Welsh border – the programme has something for everyone.

There will be a chance to learn how to read maps at an interpretation workshop, visit Kington Art Society’s autumn exhibition at the Oxford Arms in Kington and indulge in a range of musical events.

In association with the Friends of St Mary’s Church, Kington and Friends of St Thomas a Becket at Huntington, Llandovery Male Voice Choir will be performing at St Mary’s on Friday, September 20.

By contrast, Whiskey River Band will play a mix of Cajun, blues and country rock on Saturday, September 21,at the Burton Hotel.
