COMMUTERS in the north of the county could have miles cut off their journeys next week with a potential reopening of a busy route.
Essential works to the Stoke Lacy Bridge on the A465 have forced the closure of the main route between Hereford and Bromyard for several weeks.
The road was expected to remain closed until October 5.
But a spokesperson for Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty Living Places says the works have progressed so well that the bridge may be ready to reopen on Friday.
"As we exposed parts of the structure, we found that some additional works are not needed, meaning we can reopen the road weeks earlier," they said.
A confirmed opening date is expected to be published later this week.
