STARGAZERS in Herefordshire are set to enjoy a magnificent natural spectacle over the next three nights.
The Draconid meteor shower is can be seen until Thursday (October 10), but will be at its peak tonight (Tuesday).
"There will be lengthy clear spells between any showers, and the best thing is you don’t have to stay up late, start gazing as soon as it gets dark," says the Met Office.
The forecast for this evening is for clear skies from around 8pm.
During peak hours there may be 20 meteors an hour visible, but the light of the moon’s could reduce the impact of the spectacle.
The meteor shower annually arrives in October when the planet passes through the tail of a comet.
As the comet speeds around the sun, fragments of its outer layers are discarded.
This creates bright streaks of light as the meteors burn up in Earth’s atmosphere.
