In what is by now a local tradition, a three day celebration of the day’s most important meal is coming to Ledbury again, in the New Year.

This year’s winter warmer, the Ledbury Big Breakfast event will be the eighth in a row to take place, and this year it will run from January 31 to February 2.

At least 14 local venues are scheduled to take part, in an event promoted by the Ledbury Food Group, with a focus very much on local fare.

A spokesman said: “We are pleased again to celebrate Ledbury’s Big Breakfast which sees local cafes, pubs, hotels and shops in Ledbury and district offering all kinds of food to celebrate that most important of meals – breakfast featuring good locally produced food and drink.

“This special and very popular weekend sees those taking part creating special breakfast dishes featuring local produce as well as their normal offerings. Each year a splendid range of breakfasts is on offer from the lightest to the heartiest.”

The spokesman added: “Last year, we savoured an inventive range of specials using local ingredients including sausage ciabatta, potato and chorizo hash with eggs, cider baked ham, creamy hot porridge, waffle stackers, breakfast stacks, scotch pancakes with bacon and cider syrup, eggs Florentine, poached pear pancakes, creamy mushrooms, Welsh rarebit and a butcher’s sausage specially created for the event, as well as traditional Herefordshire breakfasts.

“Lighten the gloom of winter with a warm winter breakfast made from locally produced ingredients.”

Venues in and around Ledbury have already confirmed that they are taking part include the Market House Cafe; Chez Pascal; Handley Organics; Wallers Butchers; Muse Cafe; The Nest; Cameron & Swann; Ceci Paolo; The Feathers Hotel; Malthouse Café; Scrumpy House Restaurant; Gurney’s Family Butchers; Trumpet Corner, and the Seven Stars.

Further information will be available on the Ledbury Food Group website from mid- January – including details of when venues will be serving breakfast, what specials are on offer and any booking arrangements.
