Worcester Athletic Club's George Beardmore was the star of the show at a successful 2020 Cross Country County Championships.

This year's event was run on the undulating Warley Woods course after the intended course at Churchfields, Droitwich, was deemed unsuitable due to the pre-Christmas rain.

Beardmore showed his class by winning the senior men's race despite still being eligible for the under 20s competition.

He led the 9km race from the start and beat second place Adam Soley of Tipton by 26 seconds in a time of 29:17.

George's victory contributed to the senior men winning the team award for the fourth year in succession.

Although not as emphatic as last year it was possibly more impressive due to a squad hit hard by injury and illness.

Frank Tota also found success by winning the over 60s age category in a time of 37:32.

The future of Worcester AC looks bright as the club's young runners also found success earlier in the day.

Lilia Mico won the under 13 girl's race while Samuel Lea came second in the under 15 boy's category and also contributed to their team gold.

Lauren Kennard came first and Holly Love second in the women's under 17 and under 20 events respectively.

The successful day was completed by James Dale performing well to finish second in the under 20s men's race.

Worcester AC will now work hard to prepare their athletes for the National Inter-Counties event in March.'
