A READER recently calls for a new city bridge crossing, because it just takes a vehicle breakdown to cause a standstill.

You may get the same problem on a new bridge.

A simple solution is new breakdown signage along our city corridor of the A49.

These can supply the main contact for local breakdown services who then update local media.

If viable, this contact can be to utilise CCTV during the rush hour and, ideally, get a cyclist available on call to make contact with the motorist if all else fails.

On a positive note, I hear of a fit city business owner who lives on the outskirts and left behind the traffic jams and now spends just 10 minutes on an electric bicycle, though I appreciate there is a ticking time bomb of an environmental issue about electric battery disposal.
