BRITAIN is being battered by Storm Brendan this week.

But 10 years ago it was not wind and rain, but snow that hit Herefordshire, causing significant disruptions across the county.

The freezing conditions set in as Christmas approached, bringing sub-zero temperatures and significant snowfalls before the icy spell broke around January 16.

It was the most widespread and prolonged cold spell in Britain since January 1982, as we saw night-time temperatures falling well below freezing, and on occasion below minus 10 degrees celcius.
