HEREFORD'S new junior mayor says he is honoured to have been elected.

Theo Ashton from St Mary's High School was one of 16 young people nominated to fulfill the role and following interviews was selected and installed at a meeting of the council last month.

Theo, described by the school as a hardworking, passionate and determined individual, impressed the selection panel with his answers and ideas to the eight set questions asked during the interview process.

He said at the ceremony he is honoured to have been elected to represent and be an ambassador for young people in the city of Hereford and he is looking forward to the coming year.

Outgoing junior mayor Katie Devey gave an emotional speech telling those present about the amazing year she has had in the role and as an ambassador for young people.

Katie highlighted three of the many events she had attended as junior mayor and why those particular events stood out to her.

She said the last year has been the best year of her life and she has learnt so much that she will take into adult life.
