A FORMER nuclear engineer who was a volunteer helper for several good causes – and in later life became a novelist – has died aged 88.

Keith John Wilson, of Stapleton, Presteigne, died on February 1, 2020, in Hereford County Hospital.

Although he was born in Northampton, and spent much of his working life as a nuclear engineer at the Sellafield plant in Cumbria, he spent most of his retirement living in Eardisley with his late wife, Carole, and, for the past 20 years, in Stapleton, just outside Presteigne.

Mr Wilson worked for 18 years as debt adviser with the Hereford Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), and he was co-founder and treasurer of Presteigne’s first investment club.

He was national treasurer of Caring for God’s Acre, a charity dedicated to the preservation of churchyards and burial grounds.  It was only relatively recently that he published his historical novel, Letters from the Past, which has been sold and enjoyed worldwide.  In later years, he travelled widely, both for leisure and, more recently, to support the relief of refugees in Uganda.      Mr Wilson died following a long and difficult battle with cancer.  He leaves his children, grandchildren and countless friends.
