After a much needed 3-2 victory against Nuneaton, Redditch United were hoping for more of the same as they took on Hednesford Town at the TRICO.

Despite a good defensive display and some gritty midfield battling, The Reds were beaten 1-0, after an 88th minute Rhys Thompson strike.

Elliot Hodge’s through-ball was latched onto by the number 8 and he fired past Ryan Pratt into the bottom right corner.

The Reds were made to rue their earlier chances, as 2 minutes prior, frontman Romario Martin found himself one on one with Andrew Wycherley, but the Town keeper won the battle of wits to deny a United opener.

There were plenty of flying tackles and yellow cards being shown by referee Andrew Ellis, including one for Pratt, seemingly for tying his boot laces.

It was a rare start for the keeper, due to a Kieran Boucher injury, but the youngster had a solid afternoon between the sticks.

It was a tough afternoon for both sets of players, as both back lines stood strong and it was obvious from the outset that it would be a tight affair, but the late goal was enough to secure all three points for Hednesford.

Following this defeat, Duane Darby’s side still sit bottom of the table, ten points from safety.

The Reds face local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting at The TRICO next Saturday, who will be looking to add some security to their place off place.
