With everyone looking for ways to keep entertained and distracted during the Coronavirus lockdown, the arrival of Disney+ couldn't have come at a better time. Gifting a subscription to the new streaming service Disney+ is like wrapping up every Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel movie. In other words, it's the perfect gift. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as it sounds. In the U.S., you can purchase a gift subscription to Disney+, but in Europe, this feature is not yet available.

How do you gift a Disney+ subscription?

Right now, in the UK there’s no official way to give someone a digital gift subscription. However, there is a workaround you can use that will let your recipient start streaming Disney+ today: Sign up for a subscription using their email address.

What you’ll need to do is sign up for Disney+ for £5.99 per month or £59.99 for the whole year. When setting up the account, plug in your recipient’s email address, set up a password that you share with them, and then enter in your credit card information.

There are definite downsides to this approach. You won’t be able to surprise your recipient, as Disney will send them a “Welcome to Disney+” email as soon as you sign up. That introduction email doubles as your receipt, so your giftee will know exactly how much you paid—as well as the last four digits of the credit card you used to make the purchase. If there are any issues with the subscription, you’ll also need to communicate with Disney through your giftee’s account.

It’s not the most elegant way to give a gift, but it will get the job done.

What can you watch with a Disney+ subscription?

Why is a Disney+ subscription a good gift in the first place? Well, it’s streaming access to almost every Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, and Pixar film, as well as iconic television shows like all 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” and new "Star Wars" series “The Mandalorian.” So, that means classic Disney vault movies like "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," "The Little Mermaid," and "Beauty and the Beast," as well as the original Star Wars trilogy, the prequel movies, and 2015's "The Force Awakens," most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and everything Pixar from "Toy Story" to "A Bug's Life" to "Incredibles 2." It's pretty much every blockbuster you could care to watch.
