ANOTHER 854 people have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus, the biggest daily increase to date.

It means 6,227 people have now died in hospitals across the country after testing positive for Covid-19 - as of 5pm on Monday (6 April)

In the latest figures released by NHS England, no more deaths relating to coronavirus have been reported in the Wye Valley NHS Trust area meaning the total number remains at seven. There has been no deaths recorded for three days.

Nationally, it is the biggest increase since the outbreak began, with 439 deaths reported in the figures released yesterday (Monday) and 621 on Sunday.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the last 24 hours may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of COVID-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

The total number of confirmed cases in the UK, including a breakdown of figures for Herefordshire, will be released later today.

The current number of confirmed cases in 66, with four more cases confirmed yesterday.
