POLICE were called to Chalkwell Park yesterday after a fight broke out and 17-year-old boy was stabbed. 

Police taped off a large area on the cricket field next to the basketball courts yesterday evening.

A knife was found by officers during a stop and search after a fight involving a number of people broke out in the park around 6pm.

A man was arrested after a stop and search and has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon. 

He has not been charged in relation to the stabbing. 

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We are investigating following an incident in where a teenager sustained a stab wound.

"We received reports of a fight involving a number of people in Chalkwell Park at around 6.10pm on Monday May 25.

"It was reported that during the fight a 17-year-old boy had sustained a stab wound.

"We attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Officers carried out a search of the area during which they found a knife during a stop and search.

"An 18-year-old man from Westcliff was arrested.

"Keylen Akinola, of Cranston Drive, Westcliff, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 22 July.

"We continue to investigate the incident and need anyone who saw what happened, has any CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage, or any other information to come forward.
