Editorial by Mrs Wendy Martin, Head of Bedstone College:

Leading an award-winning school through these unprecedented times has shown me that, whatever each individual’s age and up-bringing, life continuously offers us opportunities to learn.

Whether adjusting to unexpected change, navigating challenges or achieving successes, learning is a lifelong process and I am proud of the way that Bedstone’s pupils, parents and teachers have embraced new ways of working together in partnership throughout the lockdown period.

I am delighted that we have continued to deliver outstanding education, development and pastoral care through our interactive learning platform, receiving positive feedback from pupils and parents alike:

“When children can’t get in to school, and with many seemingly missing out across the country, it’s a massive “Thank you” to all the Bedstone Junior and Senior school staff for the amazing on-line lessons, face-to-face classes, project work and sports activities during this period of lockdown.”

Each week, I have been overwhelmed by the ingenious and humorous responses to the ‘Head’s Challenge’ from making any country’s flag from items in the garden, to recreating the front cover of a favourite book, it has been wonderful to see the virtual Bedstone family thriving.

This commitment to excellence has resulted in the school recently being awarded Corporate Vision’s ‘Best Day & Boarding School – Midlands’ in the 2020 Education & Training Awards, and we are  working to maintain this level by making all necessary arrangements to comply with COVID-19 guidance in readiness for September, including making physical changes to the learning environment as required.

Bedstone is a co-educational day and boarding school committed to supporting every pupil to be the best they can be and our commitment to tailored learning and all-round education is at the forefront of what we provide, at all times.

Our ambitions for the school are varied and high reaching, including advancements in the use of technology, more extra-curricular activities that develop the students as resilient individuals and continuing the academically rigorous teaching and learning. We aim for students to leave Bedstone prepared to thrive in their future lives: compassionate, adaptable and having had a huge variety of experiences that inspire them to continue to try new things beyond their formal education.

Bedstone is a CReSTeD learning support centre school, with a junior school where a love of learning is fostered. Students enjoy a large proportion of sport and outside learning within the junior school but also gain friendships with children higher up the school, joining them in sports teams and being taught by senior school teachers for music, French, PE and art.
