FOLLOWING our announcement last week that this year's Health and Social Care Awards event will be a glittering digital celebration, we've received nominations for many inspirational people, among them Lynn Tomkins of Oaklands Care Home, who is nominated for the Carer of the Year award.

Angela Thompson, the daughter of a former resident, said: "Lynn's cheerful nature and desire to bring joy to all residents would make her a worthy winner.

"She was regular presence for my father and managed to get a smile out of him on most days."

Also nominating Lynn is Gordon Wathen, who said: "Lynne is always looking for new things to do to entertain the residents and keep them interested in what is going on, but no matter how busy she is she will always find time to give words of comfort, and during lockdown she has been especially helpful by making video calls on her phone to allow residents to see and chat to relatives for a short time."

Anne Farrington said: "Her efforts during the present situation to keep residents in touch with family have been nothing short of heroic."

The awards will be broadcast live online on Thursday, October 22, and will capture in real time all the glitz and excitement that has made them such a success.

This year, more than any other year we've known, has illustrated the huge debt of gratitude we owe our health and social care workers.

Many faced painful separations from their loved ones and put their own safety at risk to care for others as coronavirus cast its dark shadow over the county.

Now we have the opportunity to show our appreciation by nominate a person or team who deserves recognition. Visit www.herefordtimes.com/awardshealthandsocialcare
