A SCARECROW competition has been launched in Whixall, joining in with similar events in Calverhall and Wem.

There will be two categories to choose from, traditional or fun and for each household wanting to enter the display there is a cost of £5.

Voting forms cost 50p per form, which includes entry into a prize raffle and people will be able to see and judge the displays between September 12 and 19.

Proceeds from the competition will go to local charitable organisations in thye form of St Mary's Church Whixall, Welsh End Methodist Chapel Whixall and North Salop Wheelers Community Bus Whixall.

Julie Ankers, who is helping organise the event, encouarged people to get involved.

"As you've probably seen in neighbouring towns and villages, residents have been making and displaying scarecrows," said Julie.

"Well one of our own residents of Whixall, Dave Birch came up with the idea of our lovely village of Whixall getting involved and doing something similar.

"Any businesses or individual wishing to sponsor or donate towards our chosen charities please contact us."
