TOURISTS are being advised to stay 'Adventure Smart' when visiting the Lake District and surrounding areas.
Following an influx of visitors to the countryside, Cumbria Tourism and Adventure Smart are advising the public to ask three questions before a trek.
Do I know what the weather will be like?
Do I have the right gear?
And do I have the right knowledge and skills?
Cumbria Tourism is enthusiastic about visitors to the area but they want to reduce the number of unnecessary call outs for emergency services and mountain rescue teams.
Cumbria Tourism chairman Jim Walker said: "Nobody sets out expecting to require the emergency services but even in summer the weather is changeable. It doesn’t take much effort to plan for the conditions and ensure an enjoyable and safe day out."
