POLICE will be carrying out patrols at Credenhill Park Wood following incidents of damage being caused.

The Woodland Trust says that steps and fencing have been set on fire and mountain bikers have disturbed wildlife by building ramps into the slopes.

The trust say that Credenhill Park Wood is a haven for wildlife and a much loved local woodland.

"The centuries old hill fort is one of the largest in the UK and is a scheduled ancient monument, but this and the woodland is being damaged," said the trust.

"Steps and fencing is being set on fire to and mountain bikers are damaging the rampants, the rare woodland plants and disturbing wildlife by riding within the wood and digging new ramps on the woodland slopes."

Police say that officers will be conducting patrols in the area.
