MP Bill Wiggin has painted an exciting future for the region’s agriculture industry as he appeals to fellow farmers to back a local awards scheme.

North Herefordshire MP Mr Wiggin, who has been keep Hereford cattle for 17 years, says that leaving the EU will allow farming to reconnect with the public and market food as British in a way that wasn’t possible under EU law.

And he is supporting the Three Counties Farming Awards as a way for local farmers to come forward so that we can ‘sing your praises’.

“Herefordshire has some of the best farmers in the UK and the three counties (Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire) area represents the finest in British agriculture.

“Farming awards draw the public attention to the fantastic job that our farmers are doing.

“I welcome the opportunity to support these awards and to encourage you and your fellow farmers to come forward to receive the credit you so richly deserve.”

Mt Wiggin accepts that changes in the industry as the Common Agricultural Policy is phased out will bring challenges.

“We will not be able to do things the way we have been.

“But our farming is built on entrepreneurial spirit, can-do ethic and ability to adapt to market conditions and consumer demand.

“I am confident that whatever nature, markets or the world throw at it our local farmers will come out on top.”
