Jo Griffiths’ job at Herefordshire Council is to make sure children ‘move on to higher education and fulfil their aspirations.’

And she has been doing such a good job of it she has been nominated for not one, but two awards.

Jo, an educational officer who helps the county’s looked-after children, is nominated in the Children and Adolescent Care and the Care Hero categories of the Hereford Times Health and Social Care Awards.

Friend Trina Thomas was working as a safeguarding officer at a Hereford primary school when she got to know Jo, a former special needs teacher, and saw her ‘passion and care.’

“She goes above and beyond for those children that are her responsibility, she has a big heart and is passionate about the children and their families.

“Jo not only ensures the children get what they need educationally she is always making sure if they need anything personally if it’s in her power she provides it.

“Jo’s love of her work, enthusiasm and drive is truly what makes her special. Her creativity knows no bounds, she often finds solutions where there appear to be none.

“What an amazing person to have in place for the looked after children in Herefordshire, she’s a real asset to the looked after children team.

“Jo has made a lot of differences to those children she has worked with her patience empathy and tenacious attitude to ensure a child gets what they need has seen some of the children she has helped move on to higher education and fulfil their aspirations.”
