LIVE: Coventry United v Worcester City

Our live feed has now finished.

  • FT: United 2 (O'Sullivan 27p, 49p) City 0 (English sent off 29)
  • TWO penalties consigned 10-man City to defeat at Coventry United in a prickly encounter that ebbed away from the visitors.
  • Riley O’Sullivan twice slammed home from 12 yards with Luke English, the culprit for the first spot-kick, booked twice either side of that incident.
  • The first yellow was harsh but having escaped when he clipped Lewis Hudson from behind in the left corner of the box – O’Sullivan fired in to Dan Jezeph’s right – his aerial collision seconds after the restart and with more than 60 minutes left to play was at best ill judged.
  • City had done okay up to that point, seeing more of the ball without testing keeper Reece Francis and while United had little of the play, they looked sharp on the break.
  • O’Sullivan arced just high and wide of the near post with City still adjusting to a made few minutes but they then had their best two openings of the half.
  • Craig Jones hit the top of the bar with a looping header and Dave Reynolds forced Francis to scramble around the post from 20 yards as the opening 45 came to a close.
  • Things were very much in the balance going into the second half with Reynolds just failing to convert having pressed United as they passed backwards within 30 seconds of the restart.
  • The killer blow came within four minutes, though, with Ryan Winwood chopping down Aaron Williams just as he was about to shoot at point-blank range after a United free-kick had been recycled.
  • O’Sullivan squeezed through rather than past Jezeph and the game was as good as up.
  • City kept going and got up the pitch more than you might expect but that left gaps at the back with Kyle Carey in particular wreaking havoc down the left time and time again.
  • O’Sullivan was denied his hat-trick despite Jezeph having a tough time collecting a corner and the keeper then saved what seemed a certain third from Harry Jackson with substitute Chris Withington clearing the loose.
  • The lack of bookings for persistent fouls or venomous late challenges only added to City frustration as they tried to build back into the game and Williams might have seen red when the yellow card eventually came out for a late lunge on Tom Turton.
  • United centre-half Lewis Ludford-Ison nearly found his own net with a looping header under pressure from substitute Andy Nicol late on but the wind went out of tiring City's push in the final 10 minutes of a game that drifted further and further away as the night went on.
