I WAS disturbed to see the story about plans to build a mansion, Flow House, in open countryside in Ullingswick near the top of a wooded ridge overlooking the 13th-century church of St Luke’s and the Three Rivers Ride.

In order to override the ban on development in the open countryside, the planning rules say the mansion must be of outstanding design and must enhance the whole area.

It would be impossible for any house on this spot to enhance this unspoilt, beautiful landscape and construction will inevitably harm wildlife, the environment and the planet.

The mansion will also overlook the national long-distance horse riding, cycling and walking trail, the Three Rivers Ride, and users will be competing with traffic on the mansion’s driveway, which will cross the trail.

I wonder at the applicant’s choice of site for another reason.

There have been two disastrous landslips less than a quarter of a mile away at the top of this ridge.

Tons of earth shifted and the most recent destroyed a section of road.

I hope very much our planners will turn this application down.
