Half a century of service to the Royal British Legion by a Ledbury man has been recognised with the award of two special honours.

Lloyd Meredith, aged 83, president of the Ledbury Branch of the Royal British Legion, was recently presented with a Club Life Membership certificate by the Ledbury club’s vice chairman, Jack Smith.

And Mr Meredith’s name was recently added to the honours board, to further recognise his long years of selfless devotion.

In those five decades, Mr Meredith has served in a variety of roles, from club standard bearer through to president, a position he still holds; and until recently, Mr Meredith was the poppy appeal organiser for the Ledbury area.

He also organised popular summer skittles competitions for the club.

Ledbury’s caretaker Poppy Appeal organiser, Brenda Hill said: “He has given great service to the British Legion.

He has done such a lot and was the Poppy Appeal organiser for Ledbury for the past 20 years.”
