The Three Choirs Festival has received a lifeline grant from Government’s £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund, which should bring the festival back to Worcester, next summer.

This year's 2020 festival was postponed due to the pandemic, but organisers are hoping that, despite enduring Covid uncertainty, the Three Choirs Festival will take place in Faithful City from July 24 to July 31, 2021.

The Festival is the world's oldest classical music festival and celebrated its 300-year anniversary in 2015. For eight days each summer over a thousand performers bring music to the alternating host cities of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester. Next year is Worcester's turn.

Alexis Paterson, Three Choirs Festival Chief Executive, said: 'We are incredibly grateful to have received this funding. It's the springboard from which we can start to recover."

The sum awarded is yet to be specified.
