OVERNIGHT closures on a one-mile stretch of the A40 at Ross-on-Wye will see drivers taken on a 36-mile signposted diversion.

The A40 will be closed overnight from Monday, November 16 until Friday, November 27 between the Over Ross Roundabout and Hildersley, Herefordshire Council's roadworks map shows.

The work will see the A40 resurfaced as part of the Edenstone Homes development.

But Balfour Beatty Living Places, Herefordshire Council's contractor, has shared a map showing the diversion will be Monmouth and Mitcheldean.

The map shows drivers will be signposted to Monmouth on the A40, before following the A4136 to Huntley to rejoin the A40.

It means from the Over Ross roundabout to Hildersley, a distance of around one mile, the diversion will be around 36 miles.

It's understood this is because when an A-road is closed, the diversion route must also be on A-roads.

Herefordshire Council added there will be no weekend working, with the closure expected to be between 8pm and 6am.

Resident access will be maintained.
