A MAN has been jailed for breaching his curfew, which included attending a house party in the early hours.

Elijah Callum Griffiths, of Llanfair Road, Newtown, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court where he admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order.

The probation service told the court that Griffiths, 21, had breached the 36 month-long order on three occasions – including on October 2, when Griffiths, who was on a curfew, left his home at around 1.30am in the morning, not returning until two hours later.

When quizzed he said he had been to his sister’s property to help her, but information came to light that he had attended a house party at that address.

He also broke his curfew again on October 3 and 16.

The court was told that Griffiths had originally been given the community order for sexually assaulting a female victim, when he drunkenly used sexually explicit language and touched the breast and thigh of one woman who he did not know, and who did not want any contact with him.

Robert Hanratty, defending, said Griffiths had breached his order through “rather chaotic lifestyle choices” which had caused him difficulties.

Chair of the magistrates bench Stephen Pembroke decided to jail Griffiths for 18 weeks.

He said: “Clearly a high level community order hasn’t been working with a curfew, with persistent failure to comply in many ways.”
