Ledbury's Aldi store, and three more in the county, are part of a national trial to remove plastic packaging from wholefood nuts, in a bid to further reduce plastic waste.
The UK’s fifth-largest supermarket is trialling the removal of plastic packaging from its 200g bags of Brazil Nuts, Hazelnuts and Mixed Nuts.
'The plastic-free, paper packaging is being trialled four stores in Herefordshire as part of a trial in 230 stores across the UK.
It will remove a total of 50 tonnes of plastic per year from Aldi stores, if successful.
Richard Gorman, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “We are committed to reducing plastic packaging wherever possible.
“This latest trial on wholefood nuts is a further illustration of our commitment to reducing plastic waste.”
In July last year, Aldi announced new commitments to halve the volume of plastic packaging it uses by 2025.
