A MAN wanted on suspicion of indecent assault has been arrested after a police chase which raced through Herefordshire "very fast and very dangerously".

A police helicopter was involved after police officers saw a car travelling well-over the speed limit in Kempsey, near Worcester.

Police said that during the pursuit, the speeding car, a red Suzuki, passed Gullet Quarry, on the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border near Ledbury.

The driver of the car was arrested after officers used a stinger to burst the tyres in Welland, near Malvern.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "At around 1.10pm officers in Kempsey Village witnessed a car travelling far in excess of the speed limit and gave pursuit.

The car, a red Suzuki, failed to stop and several other police cars joined the pursuit in an attempt to stop the vehicle which was driving very fast and very dangerously.

"The police helicopter was called to assist and officers were able to effect a stop on the car using a Stinger device on the A1404 in Welland.

"A man in his 20s was immediately detained and arrested for dangerous driving, fuel thefts and failing to stop. The man was also wanted on a warrant for indecent assault and is now in police custody."

Police officers on the scene said: "Fantastic teamwork between ground units, air support and the skill of the Worcestershire Operational Policing Unit drivers brought this pursuit to an end with stinger in Welland, Worcestershire with one safely in custody."
