A HEREFORD man has been jailed for almost seven years for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another.

Stuart Michael Corbett Jennings was told by a crown court judge that he knew the woman he raped did not want anal sexual intercourse with him, but he carried on regardless.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told by prosecution barrister Michael Hall that Jennings, 37, had met his victim on a dating app and she agreed to go to his house.

Mr Hall said that in a message before the pair met, Jennings, a former Royal Navy Submariner, had told the victim to bring an overnight bag and "slutty underwear".

It was at Jennings's home in Merryhill Park, Belmont, that the pair started to have consensual sex, but he soon become rough and aggressive.

Mr Hall said Jennings then started to choke and strangle the victim "until she couldn't breathe", while he told her to "call me daddy".

Even though the victim said she wanted to drive home, Jennings stopped her and threatened to call the police as she had been drinking.

It was something Judge Martin Jackson said was "manipulative behaviour".

Jennings continued to force himself on the victim while repeatedly demanding anal intercourse, but the woman continued to say no.

He then made her wear a dog collar, and when she wanted the collar removed, he said he had lost the screwdriver needed to do so.

During the night, while the victim was in bed next to him, he raped her, and the next morning the victim agreed to have sex again because she saw it as "a way out".

The rape and assault by penetration, which Jennings pleaded guilty to, happened while he was on bail for a separate offence of sexual assault.

Mr Hall said that previously a woman had gone to Jennings's house, and while the pair were sitting watching TV he started to make advances.

He made inappropriate comments, including demanding anal intercourse with her as "that's what a man does to control a woman".

He continued to make advances, pinning her down on the sofa while slapping her face, pulling her hair and biting her. Jennings also pleaded guilty to this offence.

Defence barrister Giles Nelson said that Jennings had "behaved very badly" and it was "extremely distressing" for the women.

He said Jennings, an "intelligent and promising individual", was of previous good character and was diagnosed with Chrohn’s disease in 2015, which is the reason he left the Royal Navy after more than eight years.

Because of this, it meant his time on remand at HMP Hewell had been difficult, Mr Nelson said. Jennings was appearing via video link from the Worcestershire prison for his sentencing.

He said Jennings accepted he had "destroyed his middle-aged life with his behaviour", and he had "serious issues" which he needed to address.

Judge Jackson sentenced Jennings to a total of six years and 10 months in prison for the offences, and he also handed him an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

This will limit his use of devices capable of accessing the internet, and prevent him from signing up to any dating websites or apps. Jennings must also pay a statuary surcharge, but no costs.
