As spring arrives and days lighten, all thoughts turn naturally to hibernating tortoises.

Or if they do, the place to be on March 20 will be a Ledbury vets.

The Leadon Vale Veterinary Centre in Lower Road Trading Estate will be holding a ‘Rise and Shine’ post-hibernation clinic for tortoises emerging from their winter slumber.

Rachel Mowbray, clinical director at Leadon Vale, said: “We held an extremely popular ‘pyjama party’ ahead of tortoise hibernations last year, where we weighed, measured and checked all pets were in peak physical condition for their winter sleep.

“Now, as they re-awaken for the spring and summer, it’s equally important for them to undergo a full health check-up to ensure they are still in prime condition and ready to enjoy what we all hope will be much warmer and lighter days ahead!”

Owners of the gentle reptiles are being invited to take along their well-rested pets to Leadon Vale for a full health check, including weighing, measuring and advice.
