HEREFORDSHIRE planners will be under significant pressure to pass outline planning permission for 120 new homes in Bromyard, a county councillor has warned.

Gladman Developments Ltd wants to outline planning permission from Herefordshire Council for 120 homes with a public open space, landscaping, drainage and access from the A44 Bromyard to Leominster Road.

The current planning application for land between Panniers Lane and the A44 was submitted in 2019, but it has been several years in the pipeline with some previous applications rejected by Herefordshire Council.

Although since the development at the former council yard on the A465 Hereford Road ground to a halt due to an issue over land ownership, Bromyard West councillor Alan Seldon thinks planners will be under pressure to pass the plans for the application referred to locally as the "Pencombe Lane site", owing to its close proximity to the road.

He told a full Bromyard and Winslow Town Council meeting on Monday: "It leaves the Pencombe Lane site as the only live site with an application going forward.

"That puts our planners under a significant amount of pressure to get that site delivered, and that won't go down well with me, or any of you I expect.

"We need to be aware that there is a possibility, and I'd say more than a possibility, that application will come before committee and could be approved because of the pressure planners are being put under to develop it."

The town council has previously objected several times to the scheme, with the planning committee raising concerns over access and a lack of affordable housing.
