Prince Philip’s funeral details have been confirmed since news broke of his passing on Friday, aged 99.

The news of his death was announced in a statement on Twitter by Royal Family on behalf of the Queen.

It said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

It has now been confirmed Prince Philip will lie in rest at Windsor Castle in line with his wishes following his funeral which will be at St George’s chapel at Windsor Castle.

As is the case whenever a member of the Royal Family dies, there are strict plans in place for what happens next.

RELATED NEWS:

Each member of the Royal Family has their own code name, detailing the plans in place in the event of their death.

In Prince Phillip’s case, this code name is Operation Forth Bridge, referring to an Edinburgh railway bridge, as the Duke of Edinburgh.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast as the nation enters a period of national mourning during which the Queen is unlikely to conduct any of her usual affairs, given time to grieve.

OTHER NEWS:

As the husband of the Queen, Prince Philip would be entitled to a full state funeral where his body would lie in Westminster Abbey ahead of a burial in St George’s Chapel.

Following a number of health scares in recent years it is thought Prince Philip has had a lot of say in his funeral.

According to reports, Prince Philip wished for only family, friends and heads of state from Commonwealth countries to attend the funeral.

Now, the College of Arms has confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will not be a state funeral and the public has been asked not to attempt to attend any of the funeral events due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

Share your memories and messages of condolenceWhy should I be saddened at the death of somebody I never met and never knew but the fact is I do feel the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh. In some ways a controversial figure often outspoken and perhaps also rather blunt. These apparent faults, considering his position, seemed to endear him him to the British public as did his charm, wit and natural sociability . He was an attractive character who people responded to,very positively. I think most people including myself also greatly admired and respected him for his sense of duty and constant support of the Queen in an unwavering and exceedingly modest way . For me he established himself as an appealing and rather colourful individual who, although a member of the Royal family was most definitely an individual in his own tight exhibiting many truly excellent qualities. He was without doubt a very great asset to the monarchy who were fortunate to have him. His death does leave an empty space in my life and somehow despite never meeting him he had an impact on my life which does mean that I will miss him. Basically a very decent and outstanding man . We could do with a few more of them I shall certainly miss him Jeffrey Pusey

Thanks for being as you were.

Share your memories and messages of condolence10th April 2021 Her Majesty the Queen Buckingham Palace London SW1A 1AA U.K. Dear Honourable Madam, We, like you and your family, are equally saddened by this irreparable loss.  May the great Creator maintain the peace of his disembodied soul and place him in the highest position of Paradise.  He was an exemplary husband, who has been your constant companion for the last several decades.  As handsome as he was as a man, his behaviour  and mentality was just as beautiful.  He was not only an Honourable Duke of Edinburgh, but also a popular and sympathetic person.  He was sympathetic to humans as well as animals.  Today, animals may be just as saddened as we are, and we do not know the language to understand.  A humble appeal to the great Creator, may He give you strength to bear this unwanted grief.  The whole of Britain and the world, including me, is looking at you and praying for you and your family.  Especially if you never think you are alone, we are all always in your happy and sad time.  A special humble request to you, please pay special attention to your health and well-being. For your kind information, I am presenting my identity to you. I am Raina Roha Shams, age 14 and a Bangladeshi-American by birth and currently living in Bangladesh with my parents and grandmother.  I am also one of the lucky ones to have the opportunity to travel to your beautiful country. May God bless you, your family and the whole world. I have the honour to be, Madam, Your Majesty's humble and obedient servant. Share your memories and messages of condolenceMy older sister and I were visiting our Grampa in Brecon in 1955 when the Queen and Prince Philip were visiting. We were 6 and 8 at the time and we were dressed to impress in matching dresses and knitted boleros. Grampa had lifted us up onto the windowsill of his house so that we would get a good look at the Queen. We watched the limo driving down Orchard Street but were very disappointed to see the Queen was sitting on the other side. However we continued to wave and as they approached us Prince Philip spoke to the Queen and pointed in our direction and she waved to us. What a kind gentleman he was. Her Majesty is in my thoughts today.
