May I add my voice to those campaigning to maintain the right to peaceful protest.
Many years ago I was involved in the organisation of a mass rally of several thousand people in a London park followed by march to Westminster to hand a petition in to the Government, so I do know what I mean by peaceful, democratic protest.

However, mass sit-downs on the road, halting public transport, stopping people from getting to work and preventing ambulances from reaching sick and potentially dying people is NOT peaceful protest, and the police should have the powers to prevent this from happening.
It appears that many, but not all, of the Kill the Bill protesters are demanding not the right to peaceful protest but the right to anarchy!
