THE A49 will close between Hereford and Leominster as highways workers repair damage caused by a fire and fuel spill.

Highways England, which manages the trunk road which runs from the north to the south of the county through Leominster, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, said the road would be closed overnight on one night.

The road will be closed near Hope-under-Dinmore from 10pm on Thursday (May 13) to 6am on Friday (May 14).

Highways England said the night works are for emergency repair works to the deteriorating carriageway due to a fire and fuel spillage.

The diversion will be along the A4103 from the Starting Gate roundabout in Hereford, and then left at Newtown crossroads to take the A417 to Dinmore.

The diversion is 26.9 kilometres, or 16.71 miles.
