THERE are an unprecedented number of apprenticeships up for grabs in Herefordshire.

Training provider Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA) says the vacancies are both from businesses that have employed apprentices before, and those who are recruiting them for the first time.

An apprenticeship allows an individual to learn and earn at the same time, receiving on-the-job training in the workplace and off-the-job training provided by HWGTA.

Apprenticeship training is often thought of only for school and college leavers, but HWGTA is keen to encourage job seekers of all ages and backgrounds to apply, as apprenticeship training is available to those aged 16-64 years, while the average age of HWGTA apprentices is 24.

The current vacancies available are wide-ranging, with employers recruiting into accountancy, business administration, customer service and engineering programmes.

HWGTA chief executive Nigel Morgan said: “Many of the opportunities currently available are well suited to both those on the first step of their careers, or people who are looking to retrain.

"Our team have extensive experience in placing applicants with employers and welcome contact from anyone seeking advice or information.”

HWGTA is an Ofsted 'outstanding' provider, and has delivered training in Herefordshire for more than 50 years. It is in the top 10 per cent of apprenticeship providers’ nationally for achievement rates.

HWGTA is unique in its employer-led approach. A voluntary board of directors from a wide range of local businesses and industries ensures training programmes adapt to the latest industry standards and technology.

HWGTA chairman David Goldsmith: “HWGTA’s mission is to deliver outstanding training provision that results in an increasingly skilled, dynamic, resilient and dedicated workforce for the local economy”.
