FIGHTING fires and fighting fit is what the Ledbury team are all about.

Retained firefighters at Ledbury have been getting busy raising funds for the the Firefighters Charity and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Now you too can do your bit for the Firefighters Charity and Midlands Air Ambulance by joining the Ledbury team at one of the events they are doing for charity.

Here, Craig Fletcher tells how a personal tragedy led him to become a true hero of fighting fire and fundraising:

“I am 35 years old and have been a retained firefighter at Ledbury fire station for 12 years.

“I joined after my brother was killed in an RTC and felt I wanted to give something to the local community and to stand side by side with the firefighters that I admired for helping people in their time of need. “Because I am retained I am fortunate enough to have a fulltime job too. “During the day I work at The Brookfield School in Hereford, where I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and teach Outdoor Education and Forest School to students that have an array of issues such as ADHD, Autism and Asperger.

“I have worked there for about seven years and love it.

“As a station we have taken part in several events to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and also The Midlands Air Ambulance.

“We have taken part in the Mud Runner, it took us three and a half hours.

“We have completed the Furlong Fury event at Hereford Racecourse and our last event was the Tewkesbury Half Marathon in 2019.

“We have done all of the events in fire kit to keep it challenging and it helps keep us fit.

“We love to be out in the community because people are always so positive and grateful, it helps us maintain morale when we have those bad days.

“I am taking part in the Eastnor Mudbath event on Sunday October 10 along with my partner Jenni who always supports me, to raise more money for The Fire Fighters Charity, and of course I am in fire kit once again.

“I have a Just Giving page Craig-Fletcher999 and if anyone is able to donate or just show some support, it is all very much appreciated.

“We are always looking for people that want to give something back, love a challenge and have a good level of fitness.

“If anyone is keen, they are always welcome to drop by Ledbury fire station between 7pm and 10pm on a Monday and have a chat with us about how to join and what is to be expected or visit the HWFRS website – hwfire.org.uk.

“The Fire Fighters Charity help us with everything from physical rehabilitation to mental health issues.”
