OUR Trader of the Week this week is the Number One Sandwich Bar on Bye Street, Ledbury.

Whether it is a bacon bap and bit of banter or a salad box with all the trimmings, the ladies at Number One can accommodate.

Their counter is a smorgasboard of tasty treats from fresh tuna to egg mayonnaise to vegetables and salad.

All the fillings can be ordered to go on a sandwich or wrap or a baked potato.

Salad boxes have been becoming more and more popular because customers can choose exactly what they have on it.

“The back chat and banter is our best selling item,” said Sheila Rowberry, who has been managing the business for 11 and half years.

It is owned by her son in law and daughter Peter and Anthea Evans and she works in the bar with colleagues Carol Jones, Jenny Reynolds and Theresa Hurrell.

They sell a vast array of cold fillings for sandwiches, paninis and wraps and are currently doing a roaring trade in fresh salad boxes.

“People like that they can come in here and pick and choose exactly what they want and it is all made to order – not everything has to be laced with mayonnaise!,” said Sheila,

They do sell whatever mixture you want so there are a lot of weird and wonderful sandwich mixes including one lad who like it all with stuffing.

There are no cellophane wrapped, pre-packaged sandwiches or wraps on sale at Number One.

“People like that everything has been freshly prepared for them,” said Sheila.

“Ledbury is quite a thriving town where everybody knows eachother and lots of independent traders.

“All the business owners are local people and that is really nice.”
