Three Newent families have won prizes for bringing “sparkle and cheer” to the town with their Christmas lights displays.
Newent Town Council offered vouchers to whoever could create the most impressive festive display outside their home, with first, second and third prizes up for grabs.
With the competition in its third year, the council said judging was tough as the standard of entries was so high.
Aaron George and his family took first prize for their amazing display of lights, Christmas characters and handmade sleigh with gifts. The runner-up was Kevin Brown for his wonderful show on the theme of the North Pole. In third place was Emma Scott, who created a colourful festive woodland display.
All three win vouchers that can be used in local shops, businesses and restaurants.
Councillor Karen Draper, chairman of the town council’s Christmas Lights Committee, said: “I was thrilled the council agreed to run the competition again.
“My co-judge and I thoroughly enjoyed touring the judging route last Thursday evening. We were amazed by the very high standard of displays and greatly appreciate the great efforts made by so many households, bringing much needed sparkle and festive cheer across our
neighbourhoods.”
