On Sunday, April 3rd,2022, the Ledbury MCC will open their 67th season of promoting the all-action, motorcycle sport of grasstrack racing. This high octane, thrill a minute discipline is contested on a short, marked, oval shaped circuit and caters for riders of all ages and abilities, mounted on both solo and sidecar machines.

But, when and where did it all begin for this loyal, hardworking and dedicated band of volunteers that form the Ledbury MCC? Well, records support that one of the earliest events staged was held way back in 1954 at the Bosbury Show. On that day, the competitors were racing for the Ledbury Garden Fete Trophy which was eventually won by a certain Bill Bridgett. Since Bridgett’s victory, the club has moved on over the years from running small events at Herefordshire Fete’s to hosting ACU Western Championship and major British Championship meetings. Those British Championship events having attracted riders to the local area from just about every corner of the UK.

Now in the present day, the future looks promising for the Ledbury MCC as they continue to organise events, in the process supporting riders at all levels of the sport with a special emphasis on the Youth competitors, helping them improve and gain maximum experience within the grasstrack fraternity for many years to come. Always ambitious and very professional in everything they do, the aim of the current Chairman and committee is to also ensure that motorcycle grasstrack racing thrives both around Herefordshire and throughout the UK whilst remaining enjoyable for both riders and spectators alike.

The ultimate goal for the Club is to be considered as hosts of the British Masters, the most prestigious event in the grasstrack calendar. But whilst the Ledbury club continue to work hard and reach that dream, they first have the task of promoting the planned 2022 events. 2022 is programmed to start with a Motorcycle Auto Jumble to be held at Bromsberrow Village Hall on Sunday, March 6th before the racing season commences. There’s three events in 2022, the Ledbury Leader on Sunday, April 3rd, Sidecar Spectacular on June 26th and finally the Ledbury Flyer on Sunday, August 21st. All race meetings will take place at the Club’s home venue of Sparrington Farm, Pencombe, near Bromyard.
