Ledbury’s World Book Day events took place last Saturday (March 5), with activities, storytelling sessions and special guests popping up all over town.

Customers at The Ledbury Pet Co had a surprise when Peter Rabbit and friends called in to say hello.

The classic character made appearances at a number of venues around Ledbury, and stopped off at the pet store at the request of delighted owner Laura Panter, who said it was lovely to see the effort everyone had put in.

Author Ben Davis was also in town, signing copies of his books in the library. In a special treat for early birds, the first 20 people through the door were given free books for Ben to sign.

Crafts and activities were held in the Burgage Hall, Heritage Centre and Market House, while there were storytelling events at Ledbury Books and Maps, and Ledbury Funeral Care.

Ledbury's Community Development Officer Olivia Trueman said: "It was great to see the community work together to put on such a wonderful event.

"It was also lovely to see the town full of cheer and laughter, from both children and parents who enjoyed meeting Peter Rabbit and getting stuck into the free activities.

"As part of my role, I hope to continue working with groups in Ledbury to put on more community events.

"Anybody can join our events working party, please feel free to email me for more information – cdo@ledburytowncouncil.gov.uk"

Ledbury BookArts Group held an exhibition in the Barrett Browning Institute, featuring work by artists including Andrea McLean and Philip Weaver.

The ever-popular Ted’s Tacos also made an appearance in the high street.

Ledbury's World Book Day event was funded by the government's Welcome Back Fund, which is giving councils a share of £56 million from the European Regional Development Fund to get communities back to the high street following the pandemic.
