More details have been revealed about a chimney fire in a village outside Ledbury last night.

The fire in Ashperton began shortly after 7pm with six Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue services called to the scene.

Crews from the Ledbury, Fownhope, Hereford and Ross stations all attended, as well as two from the Bromyard station.

A service drone from Ledbury, an aerial ladder platform from Hereford, a water carrier from Leominster, and an incident command unit from Droitwich were also required.

A HWFRS spokesperson said: "The fire had spread to the roof space and the roof of the property was fully engulfed in fire."

Crews used a light portable pump using water from a garden lake to fight the flames.

A compressed air foam system was also deployed from the aerial ladder platform.

A hosereel jet and a main jet were also used as crews removed roof tiles and cut away the interior of the roof to carry out salvage operations.

Drains to the water course and a fishing lake were blocked up using an inflatable drain blocker.

The spokesperson added: "Overnight, the incident was scaled down to one fire engine with crew on a watching brief and damping down hot spots in the roof space using a hosereel and cutting away."
