A woman has been cut from a car after a crash on the motorway.

Firefighters removed the roof of the car after it was involved in a crash with a lorry on the M42 yesterday (Monday, May 23).

A woman in her 50s was freed and handed over to the care of paramedics, a fire service spokesperson said.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance service all attended at about 4pm yesterday and the road was closed for a couple of hours, causing long delays.

The M42 was closed from junction 1 to junction 4A of the M5, with motorists heading southbound having to follow a diversion north to junction 4 then turn around at the roundabout.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bromsgrove and Redditch, and the incident command unit from Droitwich attended.

“An HGV had collided with a car with a female casualty trapped. The woman, in her 50s, was extricated from the car by means of a full roof removal and handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police.”

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Around 3.45pm yesterday officers received a report of a collision between a car and a lorry on the M42 northbound near junction 1.

“The road was closed while officers, West Midlands Ambulance and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue services attended.

“No injuries were reported and the car was recovered. The road reopened around 7.30pm.”
