Ledbury retailers are being given another chance to apply for funds to help spruce up their shop fronts.

Business owners are being invited to apply for a £750 shop front improvement grant from Ledbury Town Council.

The grants are being funded by the Government’s Great Places to Visit Fund.

An initial round of funding was given out earlier this year but councillors decided to give shop owners a second chance as some weren’t able to get their applications in before the deadline.

“The appearance of shop fronts and the buildings in which they are part of has a considerable impact and influence on the character of the town,” said a town council spokesperson.

“They are an essential element not only of the buildings in which they are set but also of the wider streetscape.

“A shop front that has been designed to reflect the character of the building and its surrounding area can add charm and vitality, making it attractive to shoppers and visitors alike.

Raising the image of the town centre

“The shop front improvement scheme aims to help local businesses to maintain and improve their shop fronts in the centre of Ledbury to help support the growth of local businesses, improving the local environment and raising the image of the town centre with both locals and visitors.”

A new deadline for applications has been set as June 30. For successful applicants, all works must be completed and paid for, with invoices and photographic evidence of the work supplied to the town council, by August 31.

Thanks to the Great Places to Visit fund, Ledbury Town Council has a budget of £29,000 to fund grants of £750. It is hoped Ledbury Civic Society will be able to contribute further funds as they have in the past, potentially taking each grant to a total of £1,000.
